Lexus GEN8-9 13CY/15CY USB Update Instructions

1. Prepare* or buy a 16 GB USB flash drive formatted in FAT32 (up to 64 GB).
2. Download the update pack at the link below.
3. If you are a Windows user, you can use the included EXE file to extract the update archive directly to the USB flash drive. See "How_to_unpack_archive.pdf" available from the update link for more information.
4. If you're using a Mac, unzip only the first part (.001 file) manually. Other parts ("002" and "003" files) will be used automatically when "001" is extracted, you don't need to unpack them separately. Copy the extracted files and folders to the root directory of the USB drive. When copying is done, safely eject the drive using Eject for Windows utility: launch the app and drag the drive from the Finder sidebar to the app icon. See the video guide for more details.
5. Go to your car and take a photo of your map data screen. Click here to see where to find it.
6. Make sure your system recognizes the USB stick with the update. Confirm this by testing it in your car: insert the USB stick into the port and select the "Data update” option on the map data screen. If you see a message saying that you can install the new version, you’re ready to receive the activation key. Take a photo of the screen to be used as a confirmation that the update is recognized.
   In case you see an error message ("The new software could not be read" or another), you should carefully check all the steps in accordance with this instruction again, you might have missed something, or your system may have issues.
7. Submit a request for an activation key. Prepare a photo of your map data screen and another photo confirming that the update is recognized (see step 6). Send these photos by email, WhatsApp or attach them to the license request form.
8. Wait for the activation key to come (10-60 minutes during our business hours, but sometimes it may take longer).
9. Go to your car, turn the engine on and wait for the system to initialize.
10. Insert the update USB, go to the "Map data" screen and select "Data update" option. Start the update process by entering the activation code you received.

Details

Following the link, you should see three files, which are all part of the same archive (001, 002, 003), an unpacking utility (EXE file). You should download them separately one by one to the same folder (e.g. Downloads, Desktop or elsewhere). 

If you use Windows PC, just run the EXE file and select your USB flash drive as a destination folder.

If you use Mac OS or Linux, you have to extract only the first part (001). Other parts (002, 003) will be joined automatically, don’t touch them. Once the extraction is finished, you should see a folder with a file “Upddef.dat” and folder “0”. They should be copied to the root directory of your flash drive. In order to safely eject the drive please use this utility: Eject for Windows. Launch the app and drag and drop your USB drive icon onto the Eject for Windows icon. Eject for Windows will clean the disk of useless files that macOS stores on the disk and eject the disk after that. This is required to avoid errors during the update. 

As a result, you should have a file “Upddef.dat” and folder “0” in the root of the flash drive. While in your car, put the USB stick into the port and navigate to Setup -> Navigation -> Map data -> Data update. Enter the activation key and the update will start. 

Please prepare your USB stick with the update and make sure the system sees it before asking for the license key. These systems (13CY and 15CY) are known for their issues with flash memory, and sometimes they refuse to read the update. So it's better to be confident and check that everything is ok. Confirm this by sending us photos of the map data screen and message showing that the new update is found. We will be ready to provide you with an activation code within an hour after your confirmation.
